Wedding guest sarees

A good wedding guest saree feels special without competing with the bride. It is dressed enough for the occasion, comfortable enough to last the day, and never likely to be the loudest thing in the family photograph. The sarees below are chosen with that balance in mind: Banarasi zari weaves, Gharchola and Nakshi in modal silk, and dola silk in deep, celebratory colours.
These are guest sarees, not bridal ones. They are for the sangeet, the ceremony, the reception, the lunch the day after. Most are light enough to wear for several hours, and each carries enough detail in the weave, print or pallu that you will not need heavy jewellery to finish the look. If you are attending more than one function, a Banarasi for the main ceremony and a modal silk for the lighter events gives you two looks from a short list.
Look through the edit below, and use the guide that follows to match a saree to the type of function you are attending.

Match the formality
A morning ceremony or lunch suits lighter shades and softer weaves. An evening reception can carry more shine, a fuller pallu and deeper colours. A sangeet allows brighter shades and more movement.
Think about the bride
Families have their own customs, so it is wise to ask about colours to avoid. As a general habit, many guests skip the shade the bride is likely to wear, and avoid white or all-over cream unless the family has said it is welcome.
Pick the fabric for the day
Banarasi weaves look right at formal functions but hold more structure. Dola silk and modal silk are more fluid and comfortable if you will be sitting, standing and dancing through the day. Check the fabric on each product page.
Plan jewellery, shoes and drape
A saree with a rich pallu already carries the look, so choose one statement piece of jewellery. Wear shoes you can stand in, pre-pleat the saree and test it by walking up and down a few steps before you leave.
Think about your own comfort
You may be at the function for many hours, so pick a drape you can sit in and move around in. Test the pleats, check that the pallu stays in place and carry a spare pin. Comfort shows in how relaxed you look.
Questions about wedding guest sarees
What colour should I wear to a wedding as a guest?
Deep jewel tones such as green, blue, wine and purple are widely safe. Check with the family if you are unsure, and avoid white and bridal red unless they tell you it is fine.
Is a silk saree right for a wedding guest?
Yes. Modal silk, dola silk and Banarasi weaves all work. Choose the one that matches the formality of the function and how long you will wear it.
Are these sarees heavy to wear?
Banarasi weaves have more body than modal silk or dola silk. Product pages list the fabric so you can pick the one that suits you.
Can I get the saree delivered before a specific wedding date?
Within India we deliver in 6 to 8 days. For a tight date, write to us before ordering and we will tell you what is realistic. For international orders, see the shipping page for your country.
