Light, breathable silk with Ajrakh, Bandhani and Nakshi pallus.
Modal silk sarees are the quiet workhorse of a modern wardrobe: light enough to wear through a full workday, rich enough to carry a festival evening. This edit brings together our modal silk drapes with Ajrakh, Bandhani, Nakshi, Gharchola and Lagda Patti pallus, hand-picked from printers and weavers in Kutch.
Modal is a soft, breathable fibre with a smooth hand and a fall close to silk, and it takes block prints and woven borders in deep, clean colour. The shades run from pastels and lavender to maroon, wine and bottle green. Prepaid orders ship free across India. Filter by colour or craft to find the pallu you like, then open the saree to see its fabric and care details. Quantities are small.

Modal is spun from beech-wood cellulose and woven to feel soft against the skin. Compared with heavier silks it breathes better in Indian heat, drapes without stiffness and stays comfortable under lights or in a crowded room. It also accepts dye and hand block printing beautifully, which is why it is the base for much of our Ajrakh and Bandhani work.
If this is your first modal silk saree, start with the pallu. Ajrakh gives you a heritage print, Bandhani a dotted, festive texture, and Nakshi or Lagda Patti a woven accent that looks polished at work. A blouse in a solid shade from the saree's own palette is the easiest pairing. When in doubt, dry clean, and follow the care note on each product page. Our guide linked below explains how modal silk differs from pure silk in plain terms. Because the fabric is light, a modal silk saree also travels well: it packs small and shakes out nicely.
Modal silk takes its name from its silk-like feel. Modal itself is a soft fibre made from beech-wood cellulose. The fabric is named on each product page, and our guide to modal silk versus pure silk explains the difference.
Yes. It is light, breathable and drapes without stiffness, so it holds up through a full workday. Our office wear edit collects the calmer colours.
Dry cleaning is the safest choice. Store the saree folded in muslin, away from direct sunlight, and refold it along new lines now and then.
You can choose Ajrakh, Bandhani, Nakshi, Gharchola and Lagda Patti pallus, as well as ombre designs. Use the craft filter to see each one.
