Ajrakh sarees

19 pieces · from ₹3,999

Ajrakh sarees are printed by hand with carved wooden blocks in a resist-and-dye process that belongs to Kutch and the Sindh region. The look is easy to spot: deep indigo blues, madder reds and tightly packed geometric grids that repeat like a woven border. We hand-pick our Ajrakh from printers in Kutch, and the sarees below are printed on modal silk and dola silk, two fabrics that fall softly and show the depth of the colour well.

Every design is bought in a small run, so you will not see the same print on everyone. A block print is never perfectly mechanical. Where one block meets the next you may see a hairline shift, and a shade can vary slightly from one dye bath to another. That is how you can tell the cloth was printed by a person and not a machine. Many of our Ajrakh sarees carry a Lagda Patti or Bandhani pallu, which gives the drape a second point of interest.

The Ajrakh edit

How to choose an Ajrakh saree

Start with the fabric

Modal silk is light and falls with a fluid line, so it is comfortable for a long day and a good first Ajrakh. Dola silk has a soft lustre that picks up evening light and suits festive hours. Each product page names the exact fabric, so check it before you decide.

Read the colour

Indigo-led prints feel cool and fresh. Madder red and maroon grounds are warmer and sit well at festivals and family functions. Black and neutral grounds are the easiest to wear again and again, from a work lunch to dinner. If you are unsure, hold the photo next to the colours already in your wardrobe.

Look at the pallu

Some sarees carry Ajrakh across the whole length. Others pair an Ajrakh body with a Lagda Patti or Bandhani pallu. If you like a quieter look, choose the all-over print. If you want the pallu to be the feature, choose the contrast.

Care for it

Follow the care note on the product page. As a general rule, keep a new block-printed saree away from other clothes for its first wash, because dyes can release a little colour. Store it folded in a cotton or muslin cover and refold it along a different line now and then.

Questions about Ajrakh sarees

What makes Ajrakh different from other block prints?

Ajrakh is a specific tradition from Kutch and Sindh that uses several stages of resist printing and dyeing, which is why the colours look layered and the patterns are so precise. Many other block prints are done in a single stage with direct colour.

Are your Ajrakh sarees dyed with natural dyes?

We do not make a blanket claim. Where we have dye and print details for a piece, they are on its product page. If something is not shown, write to us and we will tell you what we know.

Which Ajrakh saree is best for warm weather?

Modal silk is the lighter choice and drapes without feeling heavy, so it is a good pick for warm days and long wear.

How should I style an Ajrakh saree?

The print is busy, so keep the blouse in a solid shade taken from the saree and the jewellery simple. Oxidised silver, plain gold or a single pair of statement earrings all work.

Do you ship Ajrakh sarees outside India?

Yes, we ship worldwide. See the shipping to your country page for how international orders work.
